Purpose:

When IIS is installed, a default website is configured at Port 80. The purpose of this article is to make you familiar with the default website node properties.

 

Procedure:

To access the node properties of the default website, highlight and right click on the default website node in the Internet Information Services console as shown below.

Explore option is used to launch the Windows Explorer to view the wwwroot folder contents in Inetpub folder. wwwroot is the root folder for default website to contain the website contents.

 

 

  • Open option is used to directly view the contents of wwwroot folder without windows explorer.

 

 

  • Browse option is used to view the default website through browser. If you have not defined your own contents in the wwwroot folder, then the IIS help documents and the IIS start pages will be shown in the two browser windows.

 

 

  • Stop option is used to stop the service of the default website.
  • Pause option is used to temporarily pause the default website service.
  • New option is used to create a new website or to create a new Virtual directory under the default website. Complete detail about creating a new website or Virtual directory will be discussed in the next coming topics.
  • All Tasks option is used to define the Permissions and Server extensions for the website. Complete detail will be discussed latter.

 

 

 

  • View option is used to configure the outlook of the console for your website i.e. in which style the status or properties of your default website should look like.

 

 

  • Delete option is used to permanently delete the website.
  • Refresh option is used to refresh the status of website if you have modified its some properties or service status.
  • Export List option is used to export the configuration settings in the form of a text file.
  • Properties option is the most important component of the website and it will be discussed in the next topics with complete detail.
  • Help option is used to get the general help about IIS.
